Cala D’Hort: Conservation for a sustainable future

The Cala d´Hort area, which includes the islands of Es Vedra, Illots de Ponent, South-West Ibiza and the surrounding marine environment, is considered a European conservation priority due to the presence of rare, endangered species. The area was previously a designated Natural Park. But protection was short-lived, and in 2007 the area granted protection was reduced from 2700 hectares to 234 hectares, covering only the islands and Can Sora.

Since then, weak and unreliable protection regulations mean that development remains a significant threat. GEN-GOB’s campaign aims to achieve long-term protection of the area, and to encourage economic activities that are compatible with its conservation.

To support GEN-GOB’s work, we provided a grant of €10,515 in 2010.
